The fire of Pearl

The fire of Pearl

There was once a small town called Marine-blue found on the eastern coast of an island. In the town a girl and her father lived. Her name was Pearl.

Pearl had lived all her life near the seaside, her father was a fisherman and they lived in a tiny house from where you could see the beautiful sea-green waves as they danced in the distance.

As she had always lived near the sea, Pear loved it. She swam everyday, she had learnt how to when she could barely walk, it was her way of escaping the harsh world when it was too much. But one day she made a discovery that completely twisted her life around.

When she was angry, she would feel her hands sizzle like they were on fire. This started on her 15th birthday and lasted a year. But it was when she turned sixteen that it all got worse. On that dreadful day Pearl learned that she could control fire. She could start it anywhere just by simply thinking about it and if she concentrated hard enough, tiny flames would pop out of her fingers and shine. Pearl thought that her power was a disgrace and it disgusted her deeply.

She tried to find a way to make her powers vanish but nothing worked. It disturbed her so much that she could not sleep at night, it haunted her day and night, for days, weeks and months.

Until slowly, she started to accept that part of herself by using the power to help other people. She even started to love it as it helped so many in need and every time she came across people that hated a part of themselves like Pearl did, she would help them and they would help others by spreading the same message. You are not alone.
