Snow up in Rigi Kulm and a Luzern day trip
It took us around three trains to reach Luzern, a city in the Germanophone canton of Luzern, located in Switzerland.
We departed from the Lausanne station bright and early only to reach a rainy Luzern. First order was a boat ride to cross the lake, to then reach a funicular station. From then on we reached a snow-covered Rigi Kulm the highest peak of Mount Rigi, after a short ride up the mountain. We spent our morning walking, playing in, and taking photos of the snow. We ended up having our lunch by the Rigi Bistro.
After lunch it was time for our descent back to Luzern, taking a cable car down to Weggis, to then wait for another boat that would cross the lake and take us to the heart of Luzern. We waited in an outdoor coffee shop by the lake, shielded by the rain and enjoying our hot drinks.
Back in the city, we spent the rest of our time until the train exploring the centre. To cross to the other side, we went through the Kappelbrücke, German for chapel bridge, taking us over the river Reuss, dating back to the 17th century. We bought souvenirs, took photos of the buildings, and came across a ‘Swiss milk’ mini-festival, where they were giving out glasses three types of milk (plain, chocolate, and strawberry) for free, milked from local cows. They also had mini-games such as spin the wheel for a chance of winning a price. I personally won a headband and packets to make banana milkshakes at home.
It was then time to return to the train station to make our journey back to Lausanne.
