Poems
Text me when you get home, remember that I love you.

Text me when you get home, remember that I love you.

Text me when you get home,

remember that I love you.

I stare at that message, willing you to open it and text me back.

I made it home safe; I love you too.

Every day, after school,

Down canopy paths of trees and thorns,

I’m home, I’m safe,

I love you.

Years later, call me while walking home,

So you are not alone,

I’m almost home,

I love you.

Meet halfway, take different trains,

Glued to our phones, talking to each other,

This is my stop,

I’m almost home.

More time passes,

different lands across miles and miles of waves,

I’m home, I’m safe, I love you,

I’m going out, I’ll text you tonight.

And now, fewer texts and calls,

But the worries remain,

I care about you all the same,

As all those years ago of our childhood,

So I wait, and wait,

For you to tell me,

That you are home, safe,

And you love me.
